Four killed as truck rams goods-carrier in Mandya

Four people were killed on the spot and 17 others injured when a mini-lorry carrying a marriage party collided with a truck near Thattahalli in Nagamangala taluk in the district on Sunday.

The mini lorry overturned after the collision, which occurred at 1 p.m. The injured were rushed to the Government hospital in Nagamangala, police said.

The condition of five injured persons is stated to be serious.

The police gave names of the deceased as: Meghana (17) and Shivalingu (41) of Kajji Kalana Koppalu, and Naveen (21) and Singrigowda (55) from Bheemanahalli village.

Police sources said that the accident occurred after drivers of both vehicles lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a sharp curve in the area.

Wedding party

According to the police, at least 40 persons were in the mini lorry when it collided with the truck. They were returning to Kajji Karadi Koppalu after attending a marriage near Devalapura village, police sources said.

Both the vehicles were severely damaged in the accident and several people were trapped inside the lorry. The people in the area alerted the police.

The driver of the mini lorry suffered injuries. But, the truck driver escaped from the spot, police added.

Traffic on the road was disrupted for more than an hour.

Nagamangala Rural police have registered a case.
