Four injured, two cows die as lightning strikes

Four persons, including two children, were injured, two cows died and two houses were damaged when lightning struck Vandse hobli of Kundapur taluk in Udupi district during heavy rain on Tuesday.

According to Ashok Kumar, Revenue Inspector of Vandse hobli, four family members of Panju Naik were injured, when lightning stuck his house in Kodlady village at around 9.15 a.m. The injured are Panju Naik’s mother Gowri (70), his wife Revati (35), and his two daughters Deepti (9) and two-and-a-half-year-old Prithvi.

All the four were rushed to the Sridevi Nursing Home in Kundapur, where they are receiving treatment. Panju Naik’s house has suffered damage estimated at Rs. 1.5 lakh.

Two hybrid cows belonging to Gowri Poojarti died when lightning stuck her house at Hattiangady village at around 8.15 a.m. Gowri Poojarti’s house was also damaged in the lightning strike and the damage has been estimated at Rs. 1 lakh.

The loss due to the death of the two cows has been put at about Rs. 60,000.

Electrical wiring of Sadhu Shyam’s house was damaged when lightning struck Kenchanur village at around 8.15 a.m. The loss has been estimated at Rs. 20,000. All these three villages are located in Vandse hobli.

Many parts of Kundapur, Karkala and Udupi taluks received rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunder on Tuesday morning.
