The former External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna has said that the cordial relationship that India enjoys with the rest of the world would suffer if Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister.
He was speaking at an election campaign meeting of the Congress in Tirthahalli on Wednesday.
Mr. Krishna said that from Jawaharlal Nehru’s time, India believes in maintaining a harmonious relationship with the rest of the world, including the Muslim nations. This type of sensitive approach cannot be expected from Mr. Modi, who believes in communal ideology. If Mr. Modi becomes the Prime Minister, the foreign policy of India may suffer irreparable damage, he said.
Mr. Krishna said that when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister, the foreign policy adopted by the Congress governments in the past was followed.
But Mr. Modi, a Hindutva hardliner, would sure try to tinker with the foreign policy, he said.
