Residents of Kudlur village in Yadgir taluk have claimed that more than 20 sheep have died in the last 10 days after an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease.
According to reports reaching the district headquarters on Wednesday, another 50 sheep of the total of 1,200 sheep in the village are showing symptoms of the disease.
However, officials from the Animal Husbandry Department, who had visited the village and vaccinated all the sheep, claimed that only two sheep were showing symptoms of the disease. Department officials will take up the second round of vaccination on Thursday.
Assistant Director (in charge) of the Animal Husbandry Department, Sharanabhupal Reddy, claimed that though there were no reports of an outbreak of FMD in Yadgir taluk, more than 1.25 lakh livestock had been vaccinated as a precautionary measure.
Deputy Director of the Animal Husbandry Department Manjunath Reddy could not be reached.
