Five killed as vehicle ploughs into procession in Srinivaspur taluk

Five persons were killed and 15 injured when a goods carrier ran over a group of devotees at Kashettipalli in Gownipalli police station limits in Srinivaspur taluk on Tuesday night.

The devotees were part of a procession taken out for the Gangammadevi festival.

The speeding vehicle, which was travelling towards Madanapalli in Andhra Pradesh, ploughed into the group. While one person died on the spot, the other four persons succumbed to their injuries at hospital, the police said.

The police gave the names of the deceased as Sriramappa, Kishor, Manjunath, Srinath and Prabhakar Reddy. The driver of the goods carrier fled the scene.
