Five drowned in Cauvery and Hogenakkal

Two school students drowned in river Cauvery at Komarapalayam and three persons drowned at Hogennakal falls on Sunday.

Police sources said that Venkatesan of Komarapalayam along with his family members went to take a bath in Cauvery near the old bridge in the afternoon. While they were bathing, Karthikeyan (17), son of Venkatesan and Gowtham (17), a relative, drowned.

Police retrieved the bodies with the help of the local fishermen. Both the victims had appeared for the recent Plus Two examinations and were awaiting results.

Hogenakkal

At Hogennakal, the first victim Sivakumar (20) of Villupuram was bathing near the hanging bridge when he was washed away. The second victim Ramesh Kumar(26) of Gudalur was also bathing in the same area. The third casualty took place on Sunday evening, when Raghu (20), a tourist from Karnataka, was washed away near Cine falls.
