The Central Crime Branch police on Thursday arrested two others for the murder of 39-year-old Shivaraj, a fisherman, in Bengre last month.
Shivaraj was hacked to death on the terrace of his house. The police said the assailants mistook Shivaraj for his brother Bharatesh, who is an accused in several criminal cases, and murdered him while he was asleep. Sunil Poojary, Dhiraj and Mallesh had been arrested earlier. Aneesh Amin (26) and Vitaraj (23) were held on Thursday.
The police said Amin and Vitaraj, who are distant cousins of Shivaraj, left the city soon after the murder. The two went to Bengaluru, Odisha, Assam and Nagaland. A team headed by CCB Inspector Shantaram kept a track of their movements. They arrested Amin and Vitaraj at a house in the outskirts of the city. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Uma Prashant said there was long-standing dispute between Bharatesh and his cousins Amin and Vitaraj. A few days before the murder, there was verbal dual between Bharatesh and his cousins. In retaliation, the duo along with the other three arrested persons murdered Shivaraj, she said.
