The first women’s batch of the newly-raised Karnataka State Industrial Security Force (KSISF) comprising 163 personnel is ready for deployment.
The personnel will be deployed to guard crucial installations in the State like reservoirs, power plants and major religious centres, besides administrative buildings like the Vidhana Soudha, the Vikasa Soudha and the High Court. The KSISF was set up by the State Government on the lines of the Central Industrial Security Force.
Passing-out parade
The women who completed training at the Women’s Police Training School in Mysuru and participated in a passing-out parade on the District Armed Reserve grounds in Jyothinagar here on Friday, are among around 1,500 constables recruited for KSISF a little over a year ago.
Superintendent of Mysuru district police Abhinav Khare told The Hindu that the personnel will now report to the Internal Security Division of the State Police in Bengaluru, which exercises administrative control over KSISF.
Training schools
The selected constables of KSISF underwent training in different police training schools various parts of the State. As the only women’s police training school in the State is located in Mysuru, the women constables underwent training in the city. Currently, personnel from the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) and local police are being deployed to guard vital installations of the State Government. “The KSISF force is expected to replace them,” a senior police official said.
As part of their training, the women were trained in the Indian Penal Codes, Industrial and General Security, labour laws, General Security Management, physical drills like handling lathis and arms, mob control, anti-sabotage checks, dog and bomb squad skills, karate and yoga.
The trainees were also deployed for bandobast duties such as Dasara celebrations in Mysuru, Lok Sabha polls in different parts of the State, and the winter session of the State Legislature in Belagavi.
Over-qualified?
Interestingly, most of the women constables of KSISF are either graduates or post graduates, even though the minimum education qualification for recruitment as constable in the State Police force is a pass in the SSLC examination.
There are 16 postgraduates, 68 graduates in various disciplines, 17 B.Ed. graduates and 16 PUC pass while the rest have diploma in Education (D.Ed).
