The Lokayukta police filed a fresh FIR on Wednesday against two former Karnataka Chief Ministers — B.S. Yeddyurappa and H.D. Kumaraswamy — in a denotification case.
The case is peculiar in that the then Chief Minister Mr. Yeddyurappa denotified an acre and eleven guntas of prime land at Gangenahalli in 2010, allegedly to benefit his political friend-turned-foe Mr. Kumaraswamy.
The land in survey nos. 7/1B, 7/1C and 7/1D, of 17 guntas each at Gangenahalli village owned by Thimma Reddy, T. Nagappa and Muniswamappa were acquired by BDA in 1976 to form Mathadahalli layout. However, one Rajashekharaiah claimed he was in the possession of the land and applied for denotification in 2007.
Mr. Kumaraswamy was the Chief Minister then and he is now accused of pushing for the denotification in spite of adverse reports by officials.
However, he stepped down before he could get it done. Mr. Yeddyurappa, who succeeded him, denotified the land in 2010 in favour of the land owners. The end beneficiary is apparently Ms. Vimala, Mr. Kumaraswamy’s mother-in-law, who claims to hold the power of attorney from the original land owners.
