The Gandhi Nagar police have registered a case against Farhan, the husband of an inspector of the women police station, on charges of assaulting a doctor at the district hospital here.
Though the incident occurred on February 28, Dr. Vinod lodged a complaint only on Friday.
Dr. Vinod, in his complaint, said that Inspector Gayatri, who is pregnant, approached him to perform a scan. As he was busy with one patient and there were others in queue, he asked her to wait or return later. She got into an argument with the doctor, and then summoned her husband who came and reportedly assaulted him.
The issue was taken up by the medical fraternity. A group of doctors met R. Chetan, Superintendent of Police, to initiate action against Farhan. In turn, Mr. Chetan, reportedly said that he could initiate action only if a complaint was lodged.
Dr. Vinod, in consultation with the office bearers of Indian Medical Association (IMA), Government Doctors’ Association and Radiologists’ Association, chose to lodge complaint on Friday. So far, no arrest has been made in connection with the case.
