The barbers of Kadagathur in Madhugiri taluk in Tumakuru district have finally opened shops and started giving haircut to all - including Dalits who were hitherto denied the service - under full police protection.

> The Hindu had reported on denial of hair cut to Dalits on May 3 , following which the district administration took up the issue.

Additional Superintendent of Police, R. Lakshman, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Rama Naik and other police personnel went to the village on Tuesday and convinced the barbers and leaders of the village to end the practice of denying haircut to dalits.

Mr. Lakshman told The Hindu, “The people of the village said that they would live in harmony and would not practice untouchability in any form.”

No cases have been booked against anyone in the village, he added.
