Activists of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) staged a protest here on Thursday demanding that the State government should fill the vacant posts in different departments in the State.

DYFI district secretary S. Raghavendra said that there are 1.7 lakh posts vacant in different departments of the State. Alleging that there is a lot of corruption in the recruitment process, the agitators demanded that the recruitment process in the Karnataka Public Service Commission be made transparent.

Besides that, the government should take steps to end the system of appointing people on contract, outsourcing appointments and casual labour system in government departments. Instead, services of those on contract should be regularised, they said.

The agitators submitted a memorandum of their demands to the Additional Deputy Commissioner Peddappaiah.
