Felicitation, contests mark Teacher’s Day

Students of schools that are part of The Hindu in School (THiS) programme paid rich tributes to their teachers on Teacher’s Day.

At KLE Society’s School, Rajajinagar, teachers were felicitated for their contribution towards the growth of the school. The auditorium was decorated with festoons and streamers and also banners with messages such as ‘Good teacher teaches, great teacher inspires’.

Chandrashekar, a student, spoke about the contributions of the former President Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was a great inspiration to the teaching community. Students presented a variety entertainment programme and made their teachers tap their feet and clap their hands. Quiz and crossword competitions for teachers were also conducted.

School principal Geethika Karola told the teachers to continue with their good work.

Students later presented a huge greeting card to the teachers.

Senior students of Ganga International School and PU College, Nelagadaranahalli, conducted classes in various subjects for students of junior sections on Teacher’s Day. Students shared their experiences and said how important and difficult it was to conduct classes and highlighted the importance of extensive preparation and subject knowledge.

Director and principal Parthasarathi Krishna Iyer spoke about the ‘guru and shishya’ relationship. Honorary president N. Ganganarasiah felicitated the teachers who had completed five years of service at the institution.

Honorary secretary Lakshminarasimha and management trustees Govindaraju, Latha Govindaraju and Anuprama Lakshminarasimha were present.

Prizes

Students of Sheshadripuram Public School (ICSE), Yelahanka, have brought laurels to the institution by bagging prizes at a competition PowerPoint presentation (PPT) conducted by Visvesvaraya Technological Museum (VTM).

Shivaprasad bagged the first prize on the topic ‘inventors and inventions’, while Anoush got the fifth prize on the topic ‘inventions of Bach’.

Badminton tournament

Delhi Public School (Bangalore East) conducted Sixteen Feathers Championship – 2013, its maiden interschool badminton tournament. Students from 56 schools took part in the event.

Sahil Sipani of DPS (Bangalore South) was the star performer of the tournament and she helped her school bag the championship trophy.

Nitesh Kumar (DPS, East), Vijetha (DPS, South), Suhas (Little Flower Public School), Richa (DPS, South), Sai Prateek (ITI School), Aswini (DPS, South), Sahil Sipani (DPS, South), and Sarayu (PSBBLLA), emerged the winners in various age categories.

Award

S.A. Nair, principal, BGS NPS, was presented the Chanakya award, instituted by The Bangalore School Trust, at a function held on Teacher’s Day. The award was presented to him in recognition of his 50 years of service in the field of education. Dilip Thakore, editor, Education World , presented the award.

Mr. Nair is a recipient of Best Teacher National Award in 2003. He has also received the NCERT award for innovations in teaching.

Onam chantha

The annual Onam chantha (fair) will be held at Jubilee School, Vijinapura, behind K.R. Puram Railway Station from September 12 to 15 and at Jubilee College, Zinkathimmanahalli, NRJ Layout, from September 13 noon to September 14 evening.

Onam specialities from Kerala such as banana chips, palada, pappadams, traditional attires, household items, coir products and so on will be on sale at reasonable prices, according to a press release by Kerala Samajam, Dooravaninagar, which runs Jubilee School and College.
