Hundreds of farmers from various villages of Navalgund and Hubballi taluks tried to lock the offices of the legislators located at the Mini Vidhana Soudha here on Wednesday in protest against their alleged apathy towards resolving the Kalasa-Banduri nala issue.

However, the police stopped farmers from entering the Mini Vidhana Soudha building where the legislators’ city offices are located.

The police had earlier stopped the farmers at the main gate of the Mini Vidhana Soudha after their protest march reached the premises.

As the gates were closed, the farmers blocked Lamington Road to vent their ire against the legislators, who they said had failed to take up their cause at the appropriate forums.

The farmers alleged that the legislators were not making honest efforts to find a solution to the issue and were only shedding crocodile tears.

Because of their apathy, even the State and Union governments were not serious about the Kalasa-Banduri nala project, they said.

As the road block resulted in a traffic jam, the police allowed the farmers to enter the Soudha premises, but stopped them from entering the main building.

The farmers raised slogans against the legislators and the governments and staged a demonstration.

They dispersed after every attempt to enter the main building was foiled by the police.

On Tuesday, the farmers of Navalgund had locked the office of N.H. Konaraddi, MLA for Navalgund and even placed thorny bushes at the entrance to register their protest against the legislators’ apathy.
