The Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene have strongly criticised the State government for releasing Cauvery water at the rate of 10,000 cusecs to Tamil Nadu.

On Thursday, activists from the organisations blocked the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway at Maddur and at Anche Doddi Gate on the National Highway 209 in Malavalli of the district in protest against the discharge of water.

Traffic was brought to a complete standstill for a long time as a result of the agitation. The protesters urged the government to stop the release water from the Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) to Tamil Nadu.
