March 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - BALLARI:

Farmers from villages, including Chanal, Handihal, Guddur, Korlagundi, Moka, and Gotur in Ballari taluk, staged a demonstration on Monday outside the office of the executive engineer of the Gulbarga Electric Supply Company (Gescom) to protest against the erratic power supply to irrigation pumpsets.

A. Devadas, president of the district unit of the Raitha Krishikoolikarara Sangha, said that the farmers were in distress due to the fluctuation in prices for agricultural produce and would suffer further due to the erratic power supply.

Demands

He demanded that Gescom ensure uninterrupted power for at least 14 hours between 4 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily.

The demonstration was withdrawn after the engineer, after receiving a memorandum, agreed to meet their demands.
