Farmers attempt suicide in separate incidents; one dies

A 55-year-old farmer who tried to commit suicide by consuming poison on Saturday in Basavamathikere in Kunigal taluk of Tumakuru district died on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Shivaramaiah. He had 58-gunta of land. He was growing red gram and had 20 coconut trees. He had borrowed Rs. three lakh from private money-lenders.

Another farmer from Kaaduramanahalli in Kunigal taluk of Tumakuru district is battling for life at Adichunchungiri hospital after he allegedly consumed poison on Saturday.

60-year-old Kalluveeraiah of Kaaduramanahalli has 1.5 acres of land and borrowed Rs. 1 lakh from State Bank of Mysore and Rs. 50,000 from private money-lenders. He was growing mulberry.
