H.D. Deve Gowda, Hassan MP, has alleged that the number of farmer suicides has increased since the Narendra Modi-led government came to power. “The number of farmer suicides has gone up in Vidarbha. In Gujarat alone, 105 farmers have committed suicide since he came to power,” Mr. Gowda told presspersons here on Sunday.
Parliament should have debated this issue. “I am not getting an opportunity to raise people’s issues in Parliament. The Speaker allots time to members considering the number of MPs in each party. Now it has become inevitable to draw the Prime Minister’s attention to serious issues through letters only,” he said.
Regarding the demand for an Indian Institute of Technology in Hassan, Mr. Gowda said he was not getting the expected response from the concerned authorities at the Centre. “I have met Mr. Modi only once. I have not got an opportunity to meet him a second time,” he said.
On BJP national president Amit Shah’s visit to Karnataka, Deve Gowda said he would not respond to his visit. “Why should I be bothered about his visit? If he wants, let him visit Hassan also,” he said.
Mr. Gowda expressed disappointment over the transfer of Hassan Deputy Commissioner V. Anbukkumar. The officer was doing good work, he said.
