Dejected with crop loss, a farmer committed suicide at Manthala in Basvakalyan taluk on Wednesday.

Vishnu Reddy Srimant Reddy (48) hanged himself in his house at noon. He had taken loans of up to Rs 3.5 lakh from a nationalised bank and a primary agriculture cooperative society. Millets and grains grown on his two acres and four guntas failed regularly since 2011. He leaves behind his wife two sons and a daughter.

A case has been registered in the Manthala police station. Shivu Shetkar, taluk panchayat member, and police officers visited the farmer’s house.
