A 30-year-old farmer allegedly committed suicide by hanging in his house at Kallur in Gubbi taluk of Tumakuru district on Friday.

The police said that he has been identified as Bhairava of Kallur. He had 1.3 acre of land on which he was growing vegetables. He had also taken land on lease belonging to Yousuf of the same village and was growing vegetables on it. He had taken a loan of Rs.20,000 from VSSN (Vyavasaya Seva Sahakara Niyamitha) in the name of his grandmother and Rs.3 lakh loan from private money lenders to grow vegetables.

As he was frequently asked by the private money lenders to repay the loan, he hanged himself from a wooden beam in his house when family members were asleep around 1 a.m. on Friday.

The family members saw his body hanging in the morning and informed the police. A case has been registered in Gubbi police station.
