A farmer committed suicide by hanging at Mattighatta village in Kadur taluk on Friday. Kancheegappa (75) was unable to bear the burden of the loan he borrowed from banks and private persons, according to his family members, and committed suicide when nobody was at home.

His son, Hemanth Kumar, informed Kaduru police that Kancheegappa owned agriculture land at Mattighatta and he had borrowed Rs.80,000 from Vijaya Bank, besides a private loan of about Rs.1.5 lakh. He spent the amount for digging a borewell. As he did not get yield in the farm land and the borewell also dried up, he was upset. He had often told family members about his inability to repay the loan.
