The tendency among rural students to fail in learning proper English is more a problem of attitude than the complexity of the language, P. Kannan, Head of the Department of English at Karnataka State Women’s University Vijayapura, said in Bidar on Friday.
“English is just another language. There is nothing to be afraid of,” he told students at the national seminar on ‘Usage of English Language Outside the Classroom,’ organised by the Akka Mahadevi Women’s College. “A disproportionate number of students fail in English is SSLC, PUC and higher courses. We should all realise that a negative mindset is holding back Indian students from learning English,” Dr. Kannan said.
