Two and half months after he was forced to resign as Karnataka Chief Minister, B.S. Yeddyurappa was on Saturday confronted with an arrest warrant in a land scam case but he surrendered later in the Special Lokayukta Court here, which remanded him in judicial custody till October 22.
The court also remanded his close associate, co-accused and former Minister, S.N. Krishnaiah Setty.
Earlier, as Mr. Yeddyurappa did not present himself in the court (citing “back pain”) when an order rejecting his bail plea was pronounced around 11.30 a.m., the judge issued the arrest warrant, directing the Lokayukta police to produce him.
But the warrant became null and void as Mr. Yeddyurappa turned himself in at 4.45 p.m. It was then replaced with a warrant instructing the Lokayukta police to escort him to the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison.
There was high drama in the court. Mr. Setty fainted while awaiting his arrest. He was swiftly removed in an ambulance to the prison hospital.
This is the first time in the history of Karnataka and second in the country that a former Chief Minister has been sent to jail on a private complaint under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The other former Chief Minister who faced such action was A.R. Antulay of Maharashtra in 1984.
Lokayukta Court judge N.K. Sudhindra Rao's verdict comes nine months after Governor H.R. Bhardwaj sanctioned the prosecution of Mr. Yeddyurappa on a petition by legal activists Sirajin Bhasha and K.N. Balraj, who accused him, some of his Cabinet colleagues, relatives and associates of being complicit in the multicrore land scam.
The verdict related to two of the five corruption cases in which Mr. Yeddyurappa is the prime accused.
There are 15 accused in the first case and 10 (including Mr. Setty) in the second. Except the two, all the accused — including Mr. Yeddyurappa's sons B.Y. Raghavendra and B.Y. Vijayendra and son-in-law R.N. Sohan Kumar — were granted bail.
However, the court imposed a bail condition that Mr Yeddyurappa's sons and son-in-law produce the documents of Davalagiri Property Developers and Bhagat Homes Pvt. Ltd., for the period right from its inception till the date the complaint was filed.

now the court showing its power and impartence to common people, by the judgments of regarding former chief minister of karnataka yadiurapppa's denotification case as well krishnayyashetty case. politicians, especially rich people had been using court as sports wepon because they have been having money but now they know money always not workout.
Our Indian Politicians are always fit and fine while looting the National & Public Wealth, but when you arrest them, their Brain stops functioning and automatically the pressure is built on the Heart and hence Appollo, Wockhardt should open Heart Hospital inside every Prison of India.
All the high profile personality have this type of problem when they faced the jail. Shame on our corrupt leaders & system.
Hope to see other former CMs all of them who have involved in corruption(in multiple times than this1 i would say) end up in this kinda situation. And importantly, all the money they looted should be taken back.
Usually the accused are arrested in cases where they are likely to interfere with investigation or likely to abscond. This is a complaint case and remand as a routine goes against the concept 'rule is bail'
Cho had rightly warned BJP that BSY was becoming an embarrassment to the party. They didn't heed to his wake-up call and are paying the price now. With this kind of development, BJP has lost their voice on the issue of corruption. What would the people do if all the political parties are down right corrupt?
Why blame the politicians in power for looting public money when the temptation is very high as the constitutional safeguards are minimal to nail them and make the 'correctional homes' as permanent residents for them instead of a temporary place of stay. In last 64 years, how many politicians in powerful positions have been convicted though umpteen no. of cases have been filed against them. in the name of investigation, the public money have been wasted over and above the loot that had taken place. it is a double loss. What is needed now is to plug the loopholes in our sacred constitution and the irony is that you have to depend on those politicians who are in the dock. A strong social revolution may bring the desired result.
Yet another mask fell off BJP when former Karnataka Chief Minister Yeddyurappa is sent to jail on land scam charges and reported bribery to journalists for high lighting Shri Advani's Rath Yathra. Shri Advani should call off his Rath yathra against corruption and start cleaniang BJP house before other chief ministers are sent to jail.
Things turning out in Tamilnadu(A.raja,Kanimozi,Marans) and Karnataka signify that we are entering a new phase of politics. Thanks to the media. Some corrupt states like AP being ruled by Congress are being defended by the Centre.Politicians in these states can count on days to face similar type of actions their counterparts in Karnataka and TN are facing today.
This will set the right presidence, and the political parties and their leaders, will be very cautious while getting involved in the corrupt parctices. After all the judiciary is keeping alive the faith of the common man in the democarcy.
The news has shocked all those who voted for governance free from corruption. The party has to pay dearly at the national level too for dithering on taking action promptly. This game is played by all the parties. When one party faces an occasion remaining parties' representatives issue statements in haste commonly hailing the law enforcement institutions even as they themselves are guilty of very similar violations. The leaders of the affected parties too issue statements. Such statements have in the recent past are a laughing stock. Through all this, common citizen only hopes that things will change for the better.
This very development may be bad day for Yeddyurappa in particular and BJP in general. However, it is a red letter day and a day of joy for those who cry for justice. It is a day laws take it own course without any respect to the person level of influence or leverage. Every citizen hails it as a day of justice. May my country be awake.
Congratulations BJP for achieving dubious distinction for being first chief minister of national party to share space in jail.
wow....its a good news but it seems to be a result of fight between two
persons ( cm and governor). if justice has to be done then every corrupt
and criminal should be punished.
we need a change in society where everyone fights for his rights not
this one which we have, where people believe that nothing is going to
change.it can happen when everybody do their job honestly.
as our father of nation has said" we ourself must be the change, we wish
to see".
Why there is so much endless corruption running into lacs of crores of public money in congress ruled Andhra pradesh state? Emmar, raheza and so many has given hundreds of acres of urban land in the name of SEZ losing thousands of crores of public money. why there is no case & no arrests ? Why emmar & rahejs to be given urban lad free of cost losing thousands of crores of public money ? When 30kms of coast lines at maximum is requiredfor developing a major port, why vapic has been given 300kms of coast line in Andhra pradesh ? why no case registered in these cases of open corruption losing lacs of crores public money. indian voters are dumb & deaf. congress is ruling opposition states thru chachagiri governors like Bharadwaj. They are killing democracy. BJP doing good governance has never used such tactics as congress. Congress is in neck deep of corruption accuse others.
It is agonizing to see such misuse of power by political 'leaders'.
Wonder if it was better off living in the stone age?
This is the Grand Entry & Early exit of BJP from South India Further
Advani’s bumpy ride will end him at Tihar Jail to accompany his
protege & partymen in Cash for Vote scam and Cash for Bumpy Ride
Coverage. it is an irony that while BJP MPs and Kulkarni were in jail
for hard evidence shown by investigating agencies, BJP was accusing
Congress of bribery on the basis of assumptions. Gateway for South
India abruptly ended in a midway for massive corruption. As his
successor has gained lot in Attending VARAMAHALAKSHMI POOJA in
Bellary.
