The State government will be holding an ‘extended second round’ of counselling for medical admissions after July 31. Speaking to The Hindu , Minister of State for Medical Education Sharanaprakash Patil on Saturday said that 43 more seats were expected to be added in the Vijayanagara Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS), Bellary, along with seven more for the All India Quota.
“We have written to all the colleges informing them of the extended round of counselling, as we do not want any Common Entrance Test (CET) seat to go back to the management,” said Dr. Patil.
When asked of the complaints received about the Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre not accepting admissions after the second round of allotment, the Minister said he was not aware of it and that he would look into it. However, the Minister said a problem had cropped up at the Subbaiah Medical College, Shimoga.
“Last year, the college had given only 25 p.c. seats to the government claiming to be a minority institution. This time, after the High Court upheld the government’s stance, there were 82 government quota seats in the college. But the college was again contending that they were a minority institute,” Dr. Patil said, while warning of strict action against the institute if it refused to admit students.
