Janata Dal (Secular) supremo and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda on Thursday appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s style of administration. He said Mr. Modi had made a good beginning.

Mr. Modi got “unprecedented” support in the Lok Sabha elections. He may offer solutions to various problems affecting the country, he told presspersons here.

Mr. Gowda, however, did not mince words in his criticism of the economic management of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government. He termed the Modi government’s first budget as an ad hoc one. “We have to give some time to the new government to overcome teething problems and should not criticise just for the sake of criticism,” he said.

Refusing to react to the criticism that the NDA government was perusing the economic policies of the UPA government, Mr. Gowda said it was difficult escape from the world economic order which started influencing developing countries since 1991. “There is no difference between the Congress and the BJP as far as the economic policies are concerned as they are the two faces of the same coin,” he said.
