Medical Education and district in-charge Minister Sharanprakash Patil has directed the officials of the Karnataka Neeravari Nigam Ltd. (KNNL) to ensure that that the Bennethora canal modernisation work is completed within the stipulated time by maintaining quality. He was presiding over a meeting of the Bennethora Water Users’ Association at KNNL office here on Monday.

“Speed up the work and maintain the quality. Strengthening of the left and right bank canals should be taken up in different phases. In the first phase, the canal network for irrigating around 5,000 hectares should be taken up and the officials concerned should immediately send a proposal,” he said.

Officials told the meeting that water will be released for irrigating 9,181 hectares of land along the right bank canal and another 2,127 hectares along the left bank canal during the imminent monsoon.

Command Area Development Authority chairman Mahanthappa Sangavi, director Dasharatha Babu Onti, and office-bearers of the association were present on the occasion.
