‘Don’t share any personal information with people’

A sports meet and cultural competitions for women were held under the aegis of Mahatma Gandhi Rural Development and Social Change (MGRDSC) Trust, Akkana Balaga and Prerana Mahila Sangha at Ravindra Nagar locality here on Sunday to mark the International Women’s Day.

Pushpa, police sub-inspector, who spoke on women safety, alleged that the social media was being used to exploit women. Women should be cautious while using the social media. They should avoid sharing personal information on social media and interacting with strangers, she said.

Parents’ responsibility

In the wake of an increase in sexual abuse of children, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act had been introduced. It was the responsibility of parents to educate their children about the physical and biological changes that their bodies undergo, she said.

Anasuyamma, who is working as a helper at the Rotary crematorium here; Shantamma, midwife from Haramaghatta village; and Shamshad Begum, physically challenged woman providing training for women in tailoring and embroidery were felicitated.

Mayor of Shivamogga City Corporation Mangala Annappa, members of the city corporation Nagaraj Kankari and S.S. Satish, and director of MGRDSC Trust K.C. Basavaraj were present.
