The entire State will come under the Aadhaar project by June next year, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Tuesday. A total of 3.2 crore people have enrolled and 2.41 crore have been issued Aadhaar numbers.
In a reply to a question of N. Cheluvarayaswamy (JD-S) during Question Hour in the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Siddaramaiah said he had held discussions with Unique Identification Authority of India Chairman Nandan M. Nilekani on the coverage of Aadhaar in the State.
Speeding up
“Our aim is to speed up the project. Our target is to cover the entire State by June 2014. Aadhaar centres will be opened at the hobli-level,” the Chief Minister said.
Mr. Cheluvarayaswamy highlighted the severe hardship caused to the public, especially the rural people, given the heavy rush at these centres.
According to the Medium Term Fiscal Plan 2013-2017 tabled in the Assembly, the government is setting up the Karnataka Resident Data Hub, which is a repository of the UID of all the residents of the State linked to various government services being availed by them.
The government has started the UID-based delivery of services through Aadhaar numbers in the districts of Mysore, Tumkur and Dharwad. “This will enable the government to prevent pilferage in the system and ensure better targeting of benefits to residents,” the MTFP said.
