The Karnataka High Court on Friday set September 2 as the deadline for the State government to ensure that the Karnataka Administrative Tribunal (KAT) commences its proceedings from the new premises at Kandaya Bhavan on K.G. Road in Bangalore.
A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice D.H. Waghela and Justice B.V. Nagarathna passed the order while disposing of a public interest litigation (PIL) petition filed by city-based advocate N.P. Amrutesh complaining about the delay in the shifting process. The KAT is at present functioning from the BDA Complex in Indiranagar, while other tribunals and courts are located in the central part of the city.
Advocates from across the State have been demanding shifting of the KAT to the city centre from many yeas. A few years ago, the government agreed to provide space at the Kandaya Bhavan when its construction was planned. However, the petition complained that even though space was allocated at the Kandaya Bhavan, the government was delaying providing infrastructure for this purpose. As the government told the court on Friday that it would provide infrastructure within two months, the court disposed of the petition while setting the deadline.
Four get bail
The High Court on Friday granted bail to four of the accused in the July 28, 2012 attack on youngsters during a birthday party at a homestay in Mangalore.
Justice Anand Byrareddy passed the order while allowing petitions filed by Taranath Kumar (28), Rajesh (29), Shailesh Shetty (23) and Shreyas alias Sacchu (19), who have been arraigned as accused five, eight, 12 and 45, respectively, in the case registered by the Mangalore Rural police. While denying the allegations levelled against them, the accused-petitioners contended that the High Court had already granted bail to Naveen Soorinje, a reporter with Kasturi Newz 24 channel, who is also an accused in the case.
