The State government’s ambitious employability programme Kaushalya Karnataka Mission launched across the State on Monday was kick-started in Mysuru with district administration conducting an enrolment camp for youngsters.

After Chamaraja Assembly Constituency MLA Vasu inaugurated a programme at Platinum Jubilee auditorium on J.K. Ground and outlined the government’s plans, many lined up at the five counters set up by the district administration on the premises to enrol youth under the programme.

Even school and college drop outs in the age group of 18 to 35 can enrol under the programme.

The programme on Monday aimed to create awareness. From Tuesday, interested youngsters can access the website of Kaushalya Karnataka Mission www.kaushalkar.com and enrol online till May 22, said Ramesh Babu, tahsildar, who was overseeing the registration procedure at J.K. Grounds. Those who registered at J.K Ground on Monday included candidates who had passed PUC, degree, ITI and diploma courses. “We did not find many candidates who had dropped out of school or college. Carpenters, drivers, gardeners and others can also register under the programme,” said Mr. Babu

Though the authorities hoped to register about 250 candidates on Monday, they were able to register only around 30 as the server was very slow.

After completing the registration, the government will tie up with training partners to engage the registered youth in skill development programmes free of cost. Finally, efforts will be made to provide them with suitable jobs.

Though the Kaushalya Karnataka Mission has been organised by the Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood, all the different departments of the State government will come together for its effective implementation, an official said. The enrolment exercise, which concludes on May 22, has also been described by officials as a demand survey of unemployed youth. Similar enrolment camps were held across the district in each taluk headquarters on Monday.
