A final year engineering college student was murdered in his hostel here on Thursday.

The victim, Mohan Kumar (22), was an eighth semester (Information Technology) student at the S.J. College of Engineering and hailed from Kalaburagi.

He was a resident of Vishwakarma Hostel and shared the room with an ITI student, identified as Raghavendra (17), for sometime. However, the two fell out and were living separately but in the same hostel.

The incident came to light in the afternoon when other residents of the hostel heard a shriek and rushed to the room to find Mohan Kumar lying in a pool of blood with his throat slit. While some people claimed to have seen Raghavendra rushing out of the room, others reportedly saw him jumping out of the hostel compound wall and escaping.

The hostel authorities and other residents rushed Mohan Kumar to hospital but he died.

The Sarawathipuram police have registered a case.
