Demanding a high-level probe into the alleged misuse and encroachment of wakf properties in the State, the Bijapur District Wakf Property Protection Committee staged a dharna and locked the wakf office here on Tuesday.

In a memorandum submitted to the government through the district administration, the committee said that the former chairman of the Karnataka Minorities Commission, Anwar Manippady, had submitted a report on the extent of land being encroached upon. Condemning the Congress government’s decision of rejecting the report, the samiti demanded that the government take action based on the report by constituting a high-level committee. The committee members said that the government should call for a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the allegation.

The committee members alleged that some of the followers of Ministers such as Roshan Baig and Qamarul Islam had encroached upon wakf land.
