Chairperson of Karnataka Vocational Training and Skills Development Corporation Pushpa Lakshmanaswamy said that the district–level employment exchange offices in the State will be upgraded as Human Resource Development centres to extend employment opportunities through skill development and vocational training programmes.

Ms. Lakshmanaswamy and chairperson of the Karnataka State Commission for Women Manjula Manasa, addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, said that around 50 per cent reservation would be given to women in all the programmes at the proposed HRD centres. Industrial training institutes and non-governmental organisations would be involved to train candidates in skill development programmes. She said that in 14 districts, the government had already upgraded the employment exchange offices as HRD centres. This included the ones in Kalaburagi, Ballari, Kolar, Vijayapura, Mandya, Chamarajnagar and Mangaluru, Ram Nagar, Shivamogga, Chitradurga, Bagalkot and Koppal. The government had allocated Rs.10 crore to the corporation in the recent budget to take up skill development training under ‘Yuva Yuga’ programme, she added.

Ms. Manasa said that a nodal officer would be appointed in all the districts for the effective functioning of the Mahila Santwana Kendra in the State. The Women and Child Welfare Department will provide mobile vans at the hobli-level across the State to organise awareness campaigns to educate the women about the acts and legal aid available to protect their rights.
