Out of the Rs. 18,923 crore set aside for the Education sector, the primary and secondary education sector has got as much as Rs. 15,680 crore with emphasis on development of government schools. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, in his Budget speech, announced that government schools will be restructured as “Shikshana Samarasya Vidya Kendras”.
To encourage enrolment and attendance of girls in class 1 in government schools, an incentive of Rs. 2 will be given to girls for each day’s attendance, the proposal said.
For effective implementation of the midday meal programme, steam boilers will be provided to schools having student strength of 500 or more, at a cost of Rs. 10 crore. Rs. 3 crore has been set aside for the Bharat Scouts and Guides.
However, incentives mentioned in the previous Budget, such as providing Akash tablets to meritorious students in government colleges, finds no mention in the new Budget.
Significantly, the Budget has proposed to restructure the examination management system of SSLC and PUC by providing all exam-related information to students online.
