An elderly person was injured after he was hit by a bullet that came from a single barrel breech loading gun fired accidentally by a mentally disabled person in Gurmitkal town in Yadgir district on Saturday.
An injured Mubarak (60) was immediately shifted to the district general hospital in Kalaburagi after preliminary treatment at a local hospital at Gurmitkal.
The police, who rushed to the spot, arrested Asad in connection with the incident.
According to the police, the gun was licensed to Asad’s father Abdul who bought it to protect agriculture crop from wild animals.
“We have taken Asad into custody and are conducting an inquiry for ascertaining the reasons for the incident,” Iada Martin Marbanaing, Superintendent of Police, told The Hindu .
