The Mandya district police have made elaborate security arrangements for the byelections to the Mandya Lok Sabha constituency on Wednesday.
Polling will be held in 1,975 polling stations in eight Assembly segments — seven in Mandya district and the K.R. Nagar Assembly constituency in Mysore district — in the constituency.
Every school and building housing a polling station would have police security, Borase Bhushan Gulabrao, Superintendent of Police (Mandya), told The Hindu .
The district police have identified 230 localities as hypersensitive and 381 localities as sensitive. The department will deploy additional forces at these places.
As many as 171 police officers ranging from rank of Additional Superintendent of Police to Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police will monitor the election procedure. The department will deploy Quick Reaction Teams (QRT), 1,690 civil police personnel, 1,507 armed police, 670 home guards, seven Central paramilitary companies and 30 Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) platoons, Mr. Gulabrao said.
Mobile parties
The Police Department has formed mobile parties that will frequently visit polling stations on 115 motorcycles and in 193 four-wheelers.
Police personnel from neighbouring districts have arrived in large numbers, he said. Meanwhile, the Police Department has decided video record polling at select polling stations. The department has hired videographers for this.
Besides taking history-sheeters into preventive custody, the police have recovered licensed fire arms from people.
The byelections were necessitated after Janata Dal (Secular) MP N. Cheluvaraya Swamy vacated the Lok Sabha seat to contest in the Assembly elections.
