Eid al-Azha, popularly called ‘Bakrid’, was celebrated with traditional gaiety and religious fervour in the city on Monday.

Thousands of Muslims gathered at Eidgah Maidans in Tilaknagar and Bharath Nagar (near Rajiv Nagar) to offer mass prayers as part of the festival of sacrifice.

Delivering the Eid sermon, Sir Khazi of Mysore Maulana Mohammed Usman Shariff said Bakrid was synonymous with sacrifice. The celebration of Bakrid should also serve to promote communal harmony and peace among the people, he said. After offering prayers, people greeted each other. The city police had made elaborate security arrangements at the Eidgahs. Prayers were offered across mosques in the city.

A group of Yemenis joined the mass prayers at Khudadad Mosque in Darul Uloom Siddiquia.
