The Second Pre-University (PU) course exam results are out, but that is just the first hurdle that students have crossed. To help them with the next step, The Hindu EducationPlus Career Counselling 2013, which received an overwhelming response at six centres – Bangalore, Mangalore, Udupi, Tumkur, Bijapur and Bellary – on May 19, will be held at nine more centres this weekend (See chart for details). They include Hassan, Hubli, Shimoga, Bidar, KGF, Davangere, Belgaum, Gulbarga and Mysore.

The event, which is an off-page extension of our weekly supplement, The Hindu EducationPlus, will help students to decide on the career path they need to take with its annual career counselling sessions.

Interactive session

In the two-and-a-half hour interactive pre-counselling session, officials from the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) will demystify the online counselling procedure. Besides, they will also tell the students about the new elements in the Common Entrance Test (CET) procedure.

Participants will also get an opportunity to hear from leading academics on the various courses and the career options available, helping them think beyond medical and engineering. Agricultural scientists will deliver talks on courses in farm sciences.Apart from informative presentations and talks, experts will take questions from the audience on topics ranging from engineering to medical to agricultural courses and even financing higher education.

Handbook

Acknowledging that the sea of information available online may not exactly be providing the in-depth data students are looking for, The Hindu EducationPlus’ Career Handbook 2013 — a well-researched publication on the emerging careers and courses — will be distributed free to all participants. Titled The Great Leap , it throws light on emerging as well as established careers and courses.
