The State Election Commission has sought a report from the government regarding files on 84 private pre-university colleges which were given permission, at the secretariat level, to start when the poll code was in place.
Complaint filed
RTI activist Marilingegowda Mali Patil has filed a complaint with the Election Commission and also plans to give a representation to the Chief Minister against Shalini Rajneesh, Principal Secretary of the Department of Primary and Secondary Education.
Confirming this, Sanjiv Kumar, Chief Electoral Officer, said that they have sought details from the government after they received the complaint.
N. Mahesh, Primary and Secondary Education Minister, also ordered a inquiry after Arun Shahapur, MLC, highlighted that though the Director of DPUE had received 246 proposals to start new PU colleges, only 11 of these were sent to the government for approval.
The remaining 235 proposals were rejected as they failed to meet the infrastructure norms and other rules.
However, despite the violations, 84 government orders were issued at the secretariat level, he alleged.
