Members of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) staged a protest in front of the taluk office at Mulbagal on Tuesday demanding implementation of Karnataka Private Medical Establishments Regulation (KPME) Act. They also demanded strengthening of government hospitals to provide health services to the poor.
The State government should implement the Act effectively to control private medical establishments in order to put a break on their exploitation of the poor, the protesters said.
The organisation also demanded establishment of government medical colleges in each district as medical education was commercialised with private operators running most of the medical education institutions.
