Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (DSS) has urged the district administration to suspend the headmistress (HM) of a government school who has been accused of discriminating against Dalit students.
An FIR has also been lodged against the accused, Nanjamma, in this connection at the Mysore South Police Station and a memorandum submitted to the higher authorities.
The DSS accused Nanjamma, who is the headmistress of the Government Higher Primary School at Ayaralli village in Varuna Hobli, of pursing anti-Dalit policies. “While the students of the upper caste were allotted chairs and desks, those coming from the Dalit community were made to sit on the floor by her,” the DSS alleged.
She was also accused of denying Dalit students an opportunity to offer prayers to Hindu gods and goddesses, said the DSS. Two students who questioned her behaviour were allegedly assaulted. The DSS threatened to launch an agitation if the authorities turned a blind eye to their appeal.
