May 17, 2013 10:33 am | Updated November 16, 2021 08:26 pm IST - BANGALORE:

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s reported direction to the officials concerned to explore the possibility of ensuring availability of quality liquor at affordable prices has attracted the wrath of the Bharatiya Janata Party Mahila Morcha, which has said that such a move is detrimental to society’s health. The morcha cautioned Mr. Siddaramaiah that it would launch a Statewide agitation if he did not drop the proposal. The morcha suspected the liquor lobby’s hand in the proposal. It said that the proposal would go against the spirit of the scheme for giving 30 kg of rice at Re. 1 a kg to poor families.
