Municipal Administrationa and Minority Welfare Minister Qamarul Islam launched the 'Clean Kalaburagi' Mission programme in Kalaburagi on Sunday.

Kalaburagi took a positive step forward to fulfil the conditions imposed by the union government for declaration of the city as smart city with the launch of the “Clean Kalaburagi City”.

Municipal Administration and Minority Affairs Minister Qamarul Islam formally launched the project in Kalaburagi on Sunday with the promise of providing the required funds for making the systematic door to door collection of both wet and dry garbage, its segregation and dumping at the landfill site at Udnoor village in the outskirts of Kalaburagi for recycling the collected garbage.

Mr. Islam, who is also chairman of the Hyderabad Karnataka Region Development Board (HKRDB), said during the course of his inaugural address, that the HKRDB had provided a sum of Rs. three crores to the Kalaburagi City Corporation for the purchase of the machinery and other equipments including 2 lakh garbage bins to be installed in all the localities.

With the funds provided by the HKRDB, he said that the Kalaburagi City Corporation had purchased 25 four-wheeler auto tippers and 13 three wheller tippers for the collection of the garbage from different localities and transport them to the landfill sites. Permission has also been granted for purchase of additional 13 three-wheeler tippers by the city corporation.

Besides collecting solid waste, the segregation of the recyclable garbage, plastics and others would be done before it is transported to the landfill site in the outskirts of Udnur. The previous attempts made by the Corporation failed due to the absence of a landfill site and lack of scientific plan for the management of the garbage and other solid waste.
