April 30, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - Hassan:

Minister for Urban Development Vinay Kumar Sorake, here on Friday, directed the officers of urban local bodies to ensure that drinking water was made available for all. The department would provide additional funds if necessary to meet the increasing demand, he said.

Mr. Sorake gave this direction at a meeting he held in Hassan on Friday. If necessary, new borewells could be drilled, he said.

“The department has provided Rs. 7.59 crore for drinking water purposes in the district. The drinking water project worth Rs. 117 crore had been approved for Hassan city,” he said.

Speaking to presspersons, Mr. Sorake said that Hassan has secured the title of one of the cleanest cities in the country.

In order to retain this status, an effective solid waste management system has to be in place. “The municipal solid waste dumped on vacant land near the old CMC office will be shifted to the landfill site at Agile village,” he said.

Hassan MLA H.S. Prakash, Hassan CMC president H.S. Anil Kumar, Deputy Commissioner (in-charge) R. Venkatesh Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner K.M. Janaki and others were present at the meeting.
