Actor-danseuse Hema Malini will perform at the main Dasara cultural event in the backdrop of the illuminated Mysore Palace on October 8. She had earlier performed during Dasara in 2007.

The list of artistes performing at the palace and at six other venues has been finalised, and the Dasara cultural sub-committee is said to have got confirmation from the artistes.

Opportunities have been given to artistes of national and international repute besides those from the State and the region. Cultural events at the palace will begin with a special dance performance by a team headed by Manjula Paramesh on October 5 at 6 p.m.

Eminent theatre personality Yanagi Balappa will inaugurate the events at the palace in the presence of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Minister in-charge of Mysore district V. Srinivas Prasad and Minister for Women and Child Development Umashree. Dasara cultural sub-committee president K.R. Mohan Kumar told presspersons here on Saturday that artistes from 14 States, such as Punjab, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, and teams from the Ministry of Culture, would perform.

Artistes from the Safaikarmachari Association, tribal artistes, folk artistes from Ekalavya Nagar and Parivarthana Orchestra members too would be given a chance, he said.
