Director of Pre-University Education Ramegowda, on Monday, submitted an unconditional apology to the Karnataka High Court for making statement that “no grace marks were awarded for the students” without properly verifying the actual fact.
In a written statement in this regard before a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee and Justice Ravi Malimath during the hearing of a PIL petition, Mr. Ramegowda said that he was not aware of the decision of the evaluating body to have “liberally evaluated” question numbers 3, 13, 16, 20, 24, 43, 33, 49(b).”
He said that he came to know about the “resolution” passed by the Chief Examiners and Deputy Chief Examiners for “liberal valuation” only after the petitioner, who whose PIL questioning sanctity of mathematics examination, submitted officially obtained photocopies of the “scheme of valuation” and answer scripts of mathematics paper of some of the students from DPUE that disclosed that invigilators did award grace marks as per the “scheme of valuation.”
Following Mr. Ramegowda’s statement and submissions made by State Advocate-General, the Bench has recalled its June 1 order of dismissing the PIL, filed by Bhuvanjyothi Education Trust from Mudabidiri in Mangalore district, and restored the PIL for fresh hearing, to be taken up on Thursday.
