The Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) in association with the District Industries Centre (DIC) has prepared a detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed women entrepreneurs’ park in Thandavapura or Thandya Industrial Estate. The DPR will be sent to the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises for approval and release of the required grants.

H. Ramakrishne Gowda, Joint Director of DIC, told The Hindu that over 135 women entrepreneurs have already registered their names for the industrial plots in the park and many more were visiting the DIC office seeking application forms.

KIADB and DIC would consider the expertise and experience of each aspirant while shortlisting the beneficiaries, he said, adding that women entrepreneurs may have to chip in a portion of the amount spent on developing the park. KIADB has earmarked over 45 acres of land for the park and a number of plots would be set up at the park to accommodate all the prospective industrial entrepreneurs, Mr. Ramakrishne Gowda said. Plots of ¼ acre, ½ acre, and one acre will be formed and provide to the entrepreneurs according to their requirements, he said and noted that certain portion of the total land would be utilised for infrastructure works. MSME is expected to release ₹10 crore after it approves the project. The proposed women entrepreneurs’ park was not sector specific, he added.

DIC took women entrepreneurs and members of WISE (Women in Small Enterprise), a wing of the Mysore Chamber of Commerce, to the project site, he said, adding that the Karnataka State Financial Corporation had consented to provide financial assistance to women entrepreneurs. The park would be a boon to women entrepreneurs and they would be given all encouragement even after they set up their units, he said. He said that general industries, including drinking water packaging plants, plastic processing units, textile, garments, waste-to-useful product-making firms, electronic goods, steel or wood furniture making industries, food and fruit industry, software, and automobile component manufacturing units may come up in the park.

Rathna Prabha, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Karnataka, will visit the site on July 26 and she would hold meetings with women entrepreneurs and their requirements at the park.
