‘Don’t misuse laws to harass men’

The former Minister B.T. Lalitha Naik on Saturday contended that laws, especially some sections under the Indian Penal Code meant to protect the rights of women, were “coming in the way of smooth family life” of couples.

Addressing a meeting convened by an organisation, christened Karnataka State Men’s Protection Committee, Ms. Naik, also honorary president of the organisation, said that laws should not be misused to “harass” men.

In a press release here, committee general secretary N. Nagesh urged the Union government not to rush through its proposed amendment to the Hindu Marriages Act envisaging a share in the ancestral properties of the husband to the estranged wife.

The organisation’s president B.S. Gowda said a website would be launched to help men and their interviews posted.

Rally

Children’s Rights Initiative for Shared Parenting secretary Rajesh Kalyanaraman, in a separate release, said that a rally would be organised on National Fathers’ Day on June 15 near Town Hall, Bangalore.
