Don’t increase passenger fares, Kharge tells Suresh Prabhu

February 14, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 09:00 am IST - KALABURAGI:

Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha M. Mallikarjun Kharge has come out against any move to increase passenger fares and freight charges in the Railway Budget for 2016-17.

He told The Hindu on Saturday that if the information from New Delhi was true, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu was all set to increase passenger fares and the tariff on goods transported through trains.

He said that with the prices of diesel and petrol plummeting and the Railways getting petroleum products much below the market rates, there was no pressing reason for an increase in the passenger fares.
