‘Don’t build on wetlands’

May 05, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:31 am IST

Wetlands are essential for recharging of groundwater and construction on them will worsen the water shortage in the city, say experts.

Commenting on the NGT order, Prof, T.V. Ramachandra, lakes expert and part of the committee appointed to study the effect of the two projects on the wetlands, said, “The SEIAA does not understand the serious problem of giving clearances to such projects. Tomorrow, there will be no water in the city as wetlands are important. The KIADB which approved the SEZ must also be blamed for this,” he said.
